I was going through my poetry notebook and found one of my favorite poems that I wrote when I was younger. Imagine me writing a poem about what women want when I wasn’t even quite a woman myself (I was 19 at the time) but I still think there are some truths to what I wrote so I decided to share. It’s a bit of a tongue twister so read it slowly! LOL.
Men say women don’t know what they want
But the thing is what they want conflicts with what they should want, what they could get and sometimes what they do have
Men say women don’t know what they want
But it’s because of men that women are so confused
Confused because…
What they want never has time
What they should want makes time
What they could get, does
Therefore that’s what they do have
Men say women don’t know what they want
But it’s because of men that women just settle
Settle because…
What they want doesn’t know what he wants until…
What they should want seems like all they could get
Therefore what they really want is not what they do have
Men say women don’t know what they want
But it’s because of men that women question themselves
Question themselves because…
What they want does what they shouldn’t want
When they could get what they should have
Should they want what they want or what they should want?
Men say women don’t know what they want
But it’s because of men that women want to give up the fight
The fight for want they want because what they want doesn’t seem to want to fight
When what they should want doesn’t give up without a fight
If they could get what is willing to fight, shouldn’t they have it?
Men say women don’t know what they want
But what men don’t understand is that…
It’s hard for women to want what they can’t seem to get
And not take what they should want if they could get it
